Villa Rockledge – awe-inspiring ocean-side vistas & movie-star history
Generations of privileged guests have been enchanted by this astonishing property, from its exquisite craftsmanship and astonishing views to its rare private beach. Charmed since it first took shape on the high cliffs of Laguna Beach nearly a century ago, the incomparable Villa Rockledge was the vision of Frank A. Miller and Arthur Benton, the developer and architect of Southern California’s famous Mission Inn resort in Riverside.
Built on a spectacular site Miller had owned since 1887, the property was created as a gift to his wife, Marion. He called it Mariona.
In late 1918, under the watchful eyes of Miller and Benton, the crews and artisans who built the Mission Inn began to craft this stunning residence by hand – from the thick cement foundations and retaining walls to the rustic stone towers, large open oceanside porches and ornamental chimneys. Each leaded glass casement window, heavy beam, hand-sanded mahogany floor, wrought iron railing and masterpiece timework was handmade. The process took 4 years.
As the movie industry emerged, the growing coastal resort and art colony of Laguna Beach became a getaway playground. An invitation to Villa Rockledge was a highly coveted prize. Hollywood luminaries like Clifton Webb, Robert Mitchum and Errol Flynn basked on its private beach. Bette Davis met her future husband, William Grant Sherry, on the mystical property. Celebrity Property top 10
The list below is in no particular order.
Oprah Winfrey: This property, located in Santa Barbara, California, belongs to Oprah Winfrey. The property covers approximately forty-two acres and the house is 23,000 square feet. Although this property is nicknamed, “Oprah’s Hearst Castle,” we like it because of the landscaping, which is meticulous. To Oprah’s credit, this property contains the largest amount of green space in Santa Barbara. Its balanced elegance reminds us somewhat of the famous historic Biltmore estates located in Ashland, North Carolina. Read the rest of this entry »

Playboy cozies up to Miami Beach Property, the Sagamore
Will one of Miami’s hottest hotels soon get a whole lot hotter? It might, if Playboy has its way.
The Sagamore, a fashionable hotel in South Beach, has missed its last three mortgage payments, and now Playboy wants to partner with the hotel, the Miami Herald is reporting.
“We’re very enthusiastic about South Beach,’” Playboy spokeswoman Martha Lindeman said Tuesday. “It just has a vibe, for lack of a better word, that we think would be great for our brand.’”
So what would a partnership like this mean for the Sagamore, a property known for its valuable collection of contemporary art? A whole lot more sexiness, for one, with waitresses in Playboy bunny outfits serving drinks and suites designed by Hugh Hefner.
“It’s an icon,’” Marty Taplin, the Sagamore’s owner, said of the Playboy bunny logo. “I thought it was a great opportunity.’” Read the rest of this entry »
