Historic French Riviera estate once belonged to Charles de Gaulle lists for USD$30 Million

post-header

Nestled in the scenic hillside of the Côte d’Azur, a storied estate with ties to the influential Charles de Gaulle has been put on the market with a price tag of USD$30 million. Known as an emblematic figure in French history, de Gaulle, who was President from 1959 until 1969 and passed away in 1970, once occupied this majestic Beaulieu-sur-Mer property following the tumultuous era of World War II. The estate is credited as the birthplace of his renowned liberation of France speech.

This 1.2-acre sanctuary, located a mere block from the luxurious resort village’s main square, daintily named Place du General de Gaulle, is encapsulated by robust gates. While the property boasts several Tudor-style annexes – vestiges of its historic past – the centerpiece is a contemporary villa, showcasing a striking transformation from its previous traditional façade to a modern glass-walled edifice.

Upon penetrating the gates, visitors are greeted with a quaint carriage house and parking facilities. A cobblestoned pathway ascends through the elaborately illuminated and landscaped estate, culminating at the approximately 11,000-square-foot residence that accommodates an elevator across its tri-level expanse. The dwelling includes nine ensuite bedrooms and an impressive count of eleven bathrooms.

The transparent entrance, flanked by glass towers, ensures an imposing reception. Inside, one finds wooden flooring paired with floor-to-ceiling picture windows scattered amongst a succession of entertainment areas. One such area, a sizeable living room, offers an idyllic view of the pool. The main floor also plays host to two state-of-the-art kitchens.

Each bedroom benefit from ample storage, with a dressing room and a private bath. The principal suite spans close to 1,000 square feet and offers two dressing rooms and an expansive bathroom. Not to be overshadowed, a penthouse-level guest room boasts an all-glass structure that extends onto a private terrace, presenting sweeping coastal vistas.

Exterior amenities are aplenty, featuring a sizable terrace for leisure and festivities, a mosaic-tiled infinity pool, and expansively maintained grounds with an impressive lighting system. Additional facilities include separate living quarters for a caretaker and several studios designated for guests or staff.

This majestic property, steeped in historical resonance and modern luxury, is being marketed by Andrea Wohl Lucas of Douglas Elliman.
