Western Australian builders have dominated the 2024 HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards, winning four of the prestigious national awards for excellence in housing.

Perth-based Ultimo Constructions was named the HIA Australian Professional Small Builder/Renovator for the fifth time, with the judges describing the company as “energetic, innovative and a well-managed business with a determination to be the best in all areas”.

“Ultimo Constructions offer clients additional services such as acquisition of land, documentation and approvals, and interior design,” the judges said.

Fellow Perth builder VM Building won the HIA Australian Spec Home award for a remarkable three-level home featuring an expansive entrance foyer, dramatic monochrome interior, and an extensive outdoor entertaining area with a curved swimming pool cascading down the sloping site.

The Rural Building Company, also from WA, took out the HIA Australian Project Home title for the second year in a row with a stunning farmhouse-style residence that effortlessly captures 180-degree panoramic bushland views.

Zorzi Builders rounded out the WA winners, being named the HIA Australian Renovation/Addition Project winner for an exquisite five-storey home that commands breathtaking river views and blends functionality with clever architectural planning to tackle its steep site.

The major award of the night, the 2024 HIA-CSR Australian Home of the Year, went to Victorian builder BCM Homes for a sophisticated coastal home suspended on the water’s edge of a steep slope.

“Judges were impressed with the meticulous detail and execution,” HIA said. “With care, attention and uncompromising quality evident at every turn, the home perfectly combines luxury living with a laid back coastal lifestyle.”

HIA Managing Director Jocelyn Martin said the awards celebrate the remarkable achievements of HIA members excelling in Australia’s residential building industry.

“At HIA, we’re dedicated to giving credit where it’s due. HIA Awards are our way of recognising the exceptional talent within our membership,” Ms Martin said.

“The craftsmanship displayed by our award winners is simply outstanding. Their projects often redefine what’s possible in terms of design and innovation, setting new standards for the industry.”

The HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards, which feature 22 categories, are selected from state-based finalists and partnered by building products company CSR.
