The former mountain retreat of Hollywood icon Burt Reynolds has sold for $2.9 million in Highlands, North Carolina.

Reynolds, who was Hollywood’s highest-paid actor from 1978 to 1982, purchased the home with his then-wife Loni Anderson while filming “Deliverance” in the area in 1972.

The modern-style home was designed by Jim Fox, a protégé of famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

Built to blend with its mountainous surroundings, the property features a wraparound porch offering sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Inside, the home incorporates natural materials including wooden walls with integrated tree trunks.

A sunken living room with a stone fireplace once hosted Hollywood stars such as Sally Field and James Garner.

Reynolds, who died in 2018, once said of the property: “I own about fourteen houses. Whenever I am asked which one is my favorite, without a moment’s hesitation I always say my house in the mountains.”

The home’s most recent owners held the property for 23 years, making enhancements in line with its original design.

Recent additions include an expanded terrace with a stone fireplace, heated plunge pool, waterfall, and serving bar.

Highlands, with a population of about 1,000, was recently named Travel and Leisure Magazine’s Best Small Mountain Town.

The town, located within Nantahala National Forest, is known for its waterfalls and fall foliage.

Other Hollywood stars including Steve Martin, Stephen King, and Nicole Kidman also own homes in the area.

Jody Lovell of Sotheby’s International Realty held the listing for the property.
