The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has welcomed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s cabinet reshuffle, which includes a new minister for housing and homelessness.
REIA President Leanne Pilkington said the organisation looks forward to working with the Hon Clare O’Neil MP in her new role as Minister for Housing and Homelessness.
“We look forward to engaging with her as there is no bigger issue for Australian voters today than housing supply and in turn affordability, whether you own or rent a property,” Ms Pilkington said.
The REIA also acknowledged the work of outgoing housing minister Julie Collins.
“We’d also like to thank and acknowledge the Hon Julie Collins MP for her tireless work and ambition on the housing agenda including working with the States and Territories on major pieces of reform including the National Housing Accord and the National Agreement on Social Housing and Homelessness,” Ms Pilkington said.
She added that REIA looks forward to continuing to work with Minister Collins in her new role as Minister for Small Business.
The REIA represents 85% of Australian real estate agencies and advocates for an industry comprising 46,793 businesses employing 133,360 Australians.
