The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has announced the resignation of its CEO Anna Neelagama after four years in the role.
REIA President Leanne Pilkington said Neelagama had led the organisation through a period of significant change in the housing market and economy.
“Anna’s accomplishments include navigating the industry through the second half of COVID-19, seven Federal Budgets, the redevelopment of Real Estate House, and in 2021 getting the then-Opposition to commit to not changing the negative gearing and CGT tax settings,” Pilkington said.
She noted that Neelagama had helped ensure politicians and government agencies understood the drivers of the current housing market.
“She has elevated the professionalism and image of REIA across the board,” Pilkington added.
While expressing sadness at Neelagama’s departure, Pilkington said the organisation was pleased she would continue working on housing supply and affordability issues.
The REIA will commence a nationwide search for its next CEO in August 2024.
Transition arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Established in 1924, the REIA represents 85% of Australian real estate agencies and advocates for an industry comprising 46,793 businesses employing 133,360 people.
