The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has begun a nationwide search for its next Chief Executive Officer to lead the organisation during a critical period for Australia’s $10 trillion real estate sector.
REIA President Leanne Pilkington said the successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Australia’s property markets and ensuring unity across the Federation.
“This is a rare opportunity to lead a national industry body at a time of significant change in the real estate sector as we head into the next Federal Election which must be held before May 2025,” Ms Pilkington said.
The new CEO will be tasked with representing member Real Estate Institutes and the professional interests of real estate practitioners at the federal level as Australia grapples with an ongoing housing supply shortage.
According to Ms Pilkington, the REIA is seeking a politically and commercially astute leader with a deep understanding of the real estate industry and its challenges.
“The Board of the Real Estate Institute of Australia has identified that the ideal candidate will be a strong advocate, capable of engaging with government officials and other key stakeholders to advance the interests of REIA members,” she said.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as the analytical and financial acumen necessary to manage the organisation effectively.
Based in Canberra, ACT, the new CEO will report directly to the President and Board of Directors.
This search follows the resignation of outgoing REIA CEO Anna Neelagama, who will take up a new role as CEO of Master Builders ACT in September 2024.
The REIA Board has appointed Hays to manage the selection process.
Interested candidates are encouraged to contact Paul Phillips at Hays for a confidential discussion.
Established in 1924, the REIA is a federated body of State and Territory Real Estate Institutes representing 85% of Australian real estate agencies.
The organisation acts as a national advocate for the Australian real estate industry, which comprises 46,793 Australian businesses and employs 133,360 Australians.
