The Property Council Academy, the professional development arm of the industry’s peak body, has introduced a new webinar series focused on purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA).

The inaugural online course, which attracted over 100 property professionals, featured high-profile speakers from the student accommodation sector.

Torie Brown, Executive Director of the Student Accommodation Council, hosted the webinar with guest speakers including Scape CEO Anouk Darling, UniLodge Australia CEO Tomas Johnsson, and International Education Association Australia CEO Phil Honeywood.

Ms Brown highlighted the timeliness of the course, given the current national focus on PBSA.

“We have never seen so much national attention on the purpose-built student accommodation sector,” Ms Brown said.

“With the government identifying PBSA as a crucial component of our housing crisis and international student market, it’s essential that we provide the right training and resources for people in and out of the sector.”

The webinar covered several key topics, including:

  • The role of PBSA in Australian Government housing and student visa policies
  • The impact of international students on the housing market
  • State-by-state taxation landscape for PBSA

Property Council Academy Director Kelly Jones said the webinar was part of a broader strategy to offer specialised training designed by industry experts.

“We tailored this webinar to address the specific needs of the student accommodation sector, and we’re already planning to expand our offerings in this area,” Ms Jones said.

“The Academy prides itself on its ability to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the industry.”

The webinar’s launch coincides with the federal government’s recent announcement of proposed new international student commencement caps, an issue the Student Accommodation Council has been actively advocating for.

Those interested in future courses can register their interest by emailing [email protected] or browsing the Academy’s range of face-to-face, online, and in-house courses at www.propertycouncil.com.au/academy.
