Property stylist Justine Wilson, founder of Vault Interiors, has unveiled her top 10 Halloween styling trends for 2024, catering to the growing popularity of the holiday in Australia.

“As Halloween continues to grow in popularity across Australia, there’s a shift toward more sophisticated and themed décor that blends style with the spooky,” Ms Wilson said.

The top 10 trends for Halloween 2024 are:

  1. Sophisticated Spook: Classic Halloween motifs with a chic update, including black lace table runners, velvet pumpkins, and metallic skulls.
  2. Nature-Inspired Gothic: Darkened foliage, twisted branches, and vintage lanterns for an earthy yet eerie vibe.
  3. Moody Lighting: Dim amber or purple lights, lanterns, string lights, and candles in glass cloches to create atmosphere.
  4. Haunted Minimalism: A monochrome palette with subtle touches like ghostly figures or shadowy wall art.
  5. Vintage Horror: Antique picture frames, retro movie posters, and classic horror literature for a nostalgic feel.
  6. Enchanted Forest: Moss, faux cobwebs, and mystical creatures nestled amongst décor with fairy lights.
  7. Pumpkin Chic: Painted pumpkins in metallic hues or matte black, arranged in stylish clusters.
  8. Interactive Entryways: Motion-activated décor and fog machines for a haunted house experience.
  9. Australian Spin: Incorporating native plants like eucalyptus or banksia with traditional Halloween elements.
  10. Eco-Friendly Frights: Sustainable decorations made from natural or recycled materials.

Ms Wilson also provided styling tips, including:

  • Start with a theme to guide décor choices
  • Layer décor, starting with larger statement pieces
  • Pay attention to small details like themed napkins and eerie soundtracks
  • Involve the whole family in decorating

“This year, we’re seeing a blend of classic Halloween elements with a contemporary twist, perfect for those who want to embrace the season while maintaining a stylish aesthetic,” Ms Wilson said.

These trends aim to help Australians create a stylish yet spooky atmosphere for Halloween celebrations, whether hosting a party or simply getting into the seasonal spirit.
