The best homes and commercial projects in Canberra were celebrated at the 2024 Master Builders and Asset Construction Hire Excellence Awards on Friday night.

Over 1,300 guests attended the gala ceremony at the National Convention Centre to recognise outstanding achievements in the local building industry.

Master Builders ACT Acting CEO Ziad Zakout said the calibre of nearly 200 entries this year was exceptionally high.

“We’re privileged to be able to continue hosting this event, to recognise and reward the outstanding achievements of our members and the building industry as a whole,” Mr Zakout said.

Shaw Building Group took out the prestigious Project of the Year award for their $5.6 million refurbishment of the Medical Imaging department at Canberra Hospital.

The technically complex project transformed an underused outdoor courtyard into a lead-lined scanning suite while keeping surrounding hospital areas operational.

“This project achieved near-perfect scores from our judges. It is an incredible feat and is a huge boost for patient care at Canberra Hospital,” Mr Zakout said.

The four-bedroom residence features a modern geometric design that blends with Canberra’s natural surroundings.

Mr Zakout said the awards encourage higher building standards and innovation that benefits the whole community.

The Commercial Construction over $50 million category was won by Icon Construction for Shirley Smith High School.

FDC Construction & Fitout (ACT) took out Commercial or Retail Fitout over $10 million for their Deloitte project.
