The Property Council of Australia has endorsed a new last-mile delivery trial aimed at improving urban logistics in Sydney’s densely populated areas.
The NSW Government initiative will utilize three government-owned sites to test innovative delivery methods in response to growing e-commerce and instant delivery demands.
Property Council NSW Executive Director Katie Stevenson said the trial addresses a critical challenge in inner-city areas where logistics space is limited.
“Given the current chronic shortage of logistics space in Sydney’s inner-city areas, this initiative is very welcome,” Ms Stevenson said.
Key aspects of the trial include:
- Use of sites at Wynyard and Waverton Stations
- Focus on sustainable delivery methods like electric vehicles and e-bikes
- Potential to service thousands of businesses and households
- Aim to reduce complexity and carbon intensity of final-leg deliveries
Ms Stevenson highlighted the potential benefits of the initiative:
“Innovative solutions to last-mile delivery challenges can help to reduce congestion and lower emissions in critical areas of the city, all while supporting the efficient movement of goods,” she said.
The Property Council emphasized the need for increased investment in logistics infrastructure to meet growing demand for instant delivery services.
Ms Stevenson said the organization looks forward to collaborating with the NSW Government and industry partners to ensure the trial’s success and future growth of last-mile logistics infrastructure across Greater Sydney.
The trial is seen as a step towards addressing the challenges posed by rapid e-commerce growth and the need for more efficient urban logistics solutions.
