Barton Highway upgrade set to boost regional economies

The duplication of Barton Highway will drive significant economic growth in surrounding regions, according to a new property analysis.

Ray White Rural Canberra, Yass, and Murrumbateman CEO George Southwell said the infrastructure project would benefit multiple industries.

“Key industries, including agriculture, construction, and tourism, are expected to experience increased efficiency and growth due to improved road conditions and reduced travel times,” Southwell said.

The improved highway is expected to strengthen Canberra Airport’s position as a freight hub.

The upgrade will particularly benefit agricultural producers needing quick market access for goods like grain, wine and horticultural products.

Southwell predicted the project would boost regional tourism by making weekend trips more appealing to city residents.

The analysis suggested property markets in towns like Murrumbateman and Yass would benefit from improved connectivity to Canberra.

The bypass of heavy traffic through these areas is expected to increase their appeal to capital city commuters.

The findings were detailed in a white paper examining the highway project’s impact on local communities.
