The federal government will inject $182 million into NSW housing development to deliver 25,000 new homes through critical infrastructure projects across the state.

Nine infrastructure projects will receive funding to support housing availability in regional and metropolitan growth areas.

The investment will deliver essential services including roads, sewage systems, water infrastructure, transport links and public open spaces.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: “This comes on top of major announcements to upgrade infrastructure across Western Sydney and the Hawkesbury-Nepean Valley.”

A significant portion of the funding will go to Parramatta’s Civic Link project, with $101.1 million allocated to unlock 14,700 new homes.

The Schofields area will receive $13 million for road infrastructure and an 86-metre bridge on Pelican Road to enable 235 new homes.

Regional areas will also benefit, with Kempsey securing $45 million for water and sewer infrastructure to support 430 homes.

Minister for Infrastructure Catherine King said: “Housing was ignored by successive Coalition governments for over a decade, which is why federal Labor is working across governments to fix their mess.”

The funding package includes $27.2 million for the Marulan Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade and $10 million for infrastructure improvements at Lake Wyangan near Griffith.

Minister for Housing Clare O’Neil said: “I know that so many Australians are feeling utterly despondent about the possibility of owning their own home, but Labor has a plan to bring home ownership back into reach for hundreds of thousands of people.”

The investment forms part of the government’s $32 billion Homes for Australia plan, which aims to construct 1.2 million new homes over five years.

Member for Parramatta Andrew Charlton said: “With this investment from the Albanese government, we’re laying the groundwork for a stronger, more connected Parramatta, a thriving hub where our families can grow, our businesses can prosper, and our communities can flourish.”

Other projects receiving funding include a $22.1 million allocation for road upgrades in Cessnock and $6.2 million for transport infrastructure in Sydney’s inner west.
