Camden Council has called for immediate state and federal funding to support critical infrastructure as the region’s population is set to surge by 81% over the next two decades.

The council released its State and Federal Election Priorities document for 2025-2027, highlighting urgent needs across transport, roads, education and healthcare.

Camden’s population is projected to exceed 257,000 by 2046, creating unprecedented demand for essential services.

Mayor Ashleigh Cagney said the region faced significant challenges despite its growth opportunities.

“Camden is growing at an extraordinary rate, and while this presents enormous opportunities, it also creates significant challenges,” she said.

The council’s priorities include extending Sydney Metro’s Western Sydney Airport line to connect Macarthur to Bradfield via Oran Park and Narellan.

Road infrastructure demands include extending the Camden Bypass and upgrading Camden Valley Way to address severe congestion.

The council also called for a rapid bus network to connect Camden with Western Sydney International Airport when it opens in 2026.

Education needs include new primary and secondary schools with larger minimum site sizes to reduce reliance on demountable classrooms that limit outdoor play spaces.

Healthcare priorities feature securing a site for a new public hospital between Oran Park and Western Sydney International Airport, plus redeveloping Camden Hospital.

Mayor Cagney emphasized the urgency of the infrastructure investment.

“We cannot afford to wait,” she said. “The opportunity is here now with the Western Sydney International Airport coming very soon and continued significant growth in our region.”

The council warned that without immediate government action, the growing community risks being left behind as the region transforms.
