Real estate industry urged to adopt ‘hunter’ mindset for 2025 success

Harcourts Managing Director Mike Green has called on real estate professionals to take proactive measures to achieve business growth in 2025.

Green emphasised the importance of being “the hunter, not the hunted” in a competitive market environment.

Drawing on Dale Carnegie’s philosophy that “inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage,” Green warned against waiting for success to materialise naturally.

“Waiting for success to knock on your door is not a strategy—it’s surrender,” Green said.

The Harcourts executive pointed to the stark difference between passive and proactive approaches in real estate.

He described two agent archetypes – one who waits for referrals and another who actively seeks new listings, networks, cold-calls and markets themselves aggressively.

“The agent who ‘hunts’ for opportunities not only builds faster results but also gains confidence in their abilities,” Green said.

According to Green, this proactive momentum creates a compounding effect that leads to greater market visibility and a steady business flow.

The approach contrasts with passive professionals who “risk fading into obscurity in a highly competitive industry,” he noted.

Green outlined six key strategies for real estate professionals to thrive as “hunters” in 2025.

These included clearly defining goals, using data to drive decisions, networking relentlessly, creating value before asking for business, developing resilience, and cultivating a proactive team culture.

He stressed that waiting for perfect market conditions is counterproductive.

“The best time to act is now. Too often, inaction is the result of waiting for the ‘perfect time’ to start. But here’s the truth—there is no perfect time,” Green said.

The Harcourts chief described the hunter mindset as more than just a strategy.

“It’s a philosophy. It’s about taking control of your destiny in business and refusing to leave your success to chance,” he said.

Green concluded by encouraging real estate professionals to be “bold” and “decisive” in their approach to business development for the coming year.
