The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) is gearing up to support its members as mandatory continuing professional development becomes a requirement for all real estate professionals in three months.
From 6 June 2025, all Queensland real estate professionals will need to complete approved CPD training annually to maintain their licences and registrations.
REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the peak body had been instrumental in establishing the CPD framework.
“We advocated long and hard for CPD to raise the levels of professionalism of all practising real estate professionals across Queensland, and we’re committed to seeing it through to fruition,” Ms Mercorella said.
The REIQ has worked closely with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) as a key contributor to its Advisory Panel.
Ms Mercorella highlighted that the organisation is preparing its resources to help professionals meet the new obligations.
“We’re readying our training resources to meet the new CPD obligations to make staying compliant as straightforward and simple as possible for professionals,” she said.
The new requirements will affect agents, property managers, auctioneers, business brokers and other industry professionals.
Each practitioner must complete two approved CPD sessions yearly, starting from the anniversary of their original licence or registration date.
The REIQ plans to offer various delivery methods to accommodate different learning preferences.
“We know that when it comes to learning preferences it’s horses for courses, so we’ll have a variety of tailored CPD topics as well as delivery methods โ such as face-to-face events, live online courses, and on-demand online video recordings,” Ms Mercorella said.
The organisation will also provide tracking tools to help professionals monitor their completed training.
According to the REIQ, the CPD sessions are designed to keep industry professionals current with legislative changes, best practices and industry trends.
Ms Mercorella emphasised that the REIQ views the transition as an opportunity for professionals to enhance their skills.
“Our goal is to make the CPD process as smooth as possible, so real estate professionals can focus on this as an opportunity to enhance their skills and service,” she said.
The REIQ indicated it would release further details about its CPD training options soon.
Resources are currently available on the OFT website, including an online calculator tool to help professionals identify their first CPD year.
