Apollo Auctions appoints first general manager amid expansion plans

Apollo Auctions has appointed experienced auctioneer and real estate professional Greg Brydon as its first general manager, marking a significant leadership move for the independent auction house.

The company, founded in 2013 by industry veteran Justin Nickerson, operates with more than 35 auctioneers across Australia and New Zealand, collectively calling over 7,000 auctions each year. Nickerson said the company’s growth had created the need for dedicated leadership to expand its reach and support auctioneers.

“It became apparent that we needed another leader within the business to focus on growing our size and reach, provide additional support and leadership to our existing stable of auctioneers, as well as recruiting new auctioneers,” he said.

Brydon, based in Melbourne, has a background in administration, property management, sales, and auctions, which Nickerson said made him an ideal candidate for the role.

“It was vital that the position was filled by someone who had experience as an auctioneer but also across the wider real estate industry, including sales, which meant that Greg – an Apollo auctioneer – was the perfect fit for the role,” he said.

Brydon said he was honoured to take on the leadership position at a company he has long admired.

“I feel extremely privileged but also humble because Justin has been my auction idol for many years,” he said. “To now have Justin as both a mentor and a leader who is putting his trust in me to lead his business through its next phase of growth is just incredible.”

He said his focus over the next 12 to 18 months would be on growing Apollo Auctions’ team and expanding its services.

“Our big hairy, audacious goal is for our team to be calling 10,000 auctions in the 2026 calendar year, as well as increasing our number of auctioneers to 50 across Australia and New Zealand,” he said.

Brydon also aims to strengthen the company’s presence in auction training, with the goal of making Apollo Auctions the leading name in real estate auctions across Australasia.
