A beachfront apartment in Currumbin previously owned by a prominent local family for four decades has been listed for sale.
The two-bedroom unit in the Fletcher building at 738 Pacific Parade is scheduled for auction on May 2.
Originally commissioned by local identity Col Smith when the building was constructed in 1975, the property remained in the Smith family until 2017.
LJ Hooker Southern Gold Coast agent Erin King said the Smith family retained Unit 4 until it was purchased off-market by another owner in the complex for $711,000.
“Col Smith recognised the unique beauty of Currumbin Beach,” Ms King said.
“Fletcher is positioned on a bend in Pacific Parade which offers views to Surfers Paradise’s skyline and south to Snapper Rocks.”
The Smiths were significant contributors to the development of Currumbin. Col Smith served as president of the Currumbin Beach Progress Association, while his father Tom Smith developed several buildings in the suburb, including the first surf clubhouse on Elephant Rock.
“Unit 4 was the last of the properties the family owned on Currumbin Beach because the Smiths believed it had the best view in the suburb โ maybe even the entire Gold Coast,” Ms King said.
The property is located opposite Elephant Rock and Currumbin Surf Club, with panoramic 180-degree views from the balcony, living area and bedrooms.
The Gold Coast City Council has recognised the Smith family’s contribution to the local community through a viewing deck named in Col’s honour on the Currumbin Oceanway, visible from the unit’s balcony.
Property records show the unit has been rented between 2017 and 2023 at between $630 and $750 per week and is currently leased at $950 per week.
According to PropTrack data, Currumbin unit prices increased 6.7 per cent over the past 12 months to a median of $950,000.
