A luxury Wategos Beach property owned by jeweller Giovanni D’Ercole has been listed for sale with expectations of $19.25 million.

The Christie Vadasz-designed home, which D’Ercole purchased for $4.3 million in 2017, is situated on an 883 square metre block near Cape Byron Lighthouse.

The two-storey property features expansive decks and panoramic ocean views over Julian Rocks and toward Mount Warning.

The listing describes the home as “a private sanctuary” that is “one of the privileged few to overlook exclusive Wategos Beach” and is “just a 1 minute walk to the beach.”

D’Ercole is the founder of Love & Hatred jewellery boutique and has created custom pieces for musicians including Alice Cooper, Michael Hutchence and Chrissy Amphlett.

The property sits next door to a home owned by Anthony Catalano, executive chairman and co-owner of Australian Community Media and an investor in the upmarket Raes Hotel on Wategos Beach.

The listing comes following reports of an incident between the neighbours. According to police statements cited by the Australian Financial Review, an altercation occurred near the coffee cart outside Raes Hotel on February 26.

“Police have been told an altercation took place with members of the public intervening to separate the men with [Mr D’Ercole] leaving the scene,” a police spokeswoman said in a statement at the time.

The Daily Mail has reported that police have since closed their investigation without pressing charges.

Catalano’s own plans for a $55 million development at Wategos were recently rejected by Byron Shire Council, which determined the proposal was unsuitable for the 4,230 square metre block due to its “bulk scale.”

The premium Byron Bay market has seen several significant sales in recent years, with Wategos Beach remaining one of the area’s most sought-after locations.
